about

Misha Faulty’s Incoherent Imaging, her first with Multibody Records, curdles the moment the opening track gets underway. A close-up image of a face as it begins to crack, her throat caught as she breaks down into heaving sobs and her body burns in panic. The wailing and granular processing here conjure an atmosphere bleeding with discomfort. The drawn out rubbery squeaks, decimating kicks and bursts of garbled noise halt any attempts to settle. Many of the sounds in this project eat themselves, like a body engorging itself on its own limbs only for them to regrow in mutated forms. Each track samples another one from the project in some way, coalescing with the granular component mentioned above, a technique in which sound is split into grains which constantly de- and re-composing themselves, to further this idea of sonic auto-cannibalism.

Misha developed these ideas out of a performance piece she did in 2019 where the character she played recounted a story of a disabled person eating their own limbs exploring a dichotomy of both attempting to get rid of her disabilities whilst also making herself more disabled in the process.
